Materials

At Crafting Together we use hand crafted and recycled materials wherever we can. We are proud to always pay a fair price for the quality materials we use in our products.

 Scotland Map Beads

Scotland Map Beads

The beads used in our Scotland map collection tell a story of working together from Clydebank to Kampala.
We send used Scotland street maps to awamu in Kampala, Uganda. Master bead maker, Sarah Namaganda, works with young women of the awamu skills' development programme to turn the paper into beautiful Scotland map beads, just for us! Our Jewellery Makers in Clydebank use these beads to make the Scotland map jewellery collection. Each item tells a story of skills development, employability and health and well being from Clydebank to Kampala.

Recycled Beads

Magie Relph and Bob Irwin from The African Fabric Shop spend a lot of time researching and buying beads in Ghana. They trek to remote villages, scour the Koforidua and Krobo-Odumasi bead markets and work directly with artisan bead makers to bring hand-crafted beads made from recycled glass to the UK.

We love using these beautiful recycled beads in our glass, brass and hand painted jewellery.

Hand Painted Fabric

Hand Painted Fabric

All the fabric we use for our lampshades is handpainted in the studio. Wherever possible we try to re-purpose fabrics and have previously worked with the Centre for Advanced Textiles in Glasgow, to make use of all their offcuts from their digital printing process.
